Welcome to my new blog!
This is my Story and I’m Sticking to It!
I am a Storyteller, Musician, and Writer. I am an Educator and Executive Coach. I am also a wife to a fab husband, John, who is a musician and business consultant, and I am the mother of a 6 year old ninja, Michael. AND now, I am officially in the Cancer Club.
Cancer is not who I am. It is what I’m going through.
On Thursday, October 30th, 2014 I was diagnosed with anal mucosal melanoma, a very rare cancer. I mean, like 1 in 2.5 million people get my cancer. Because the melanoma (usually found on your skin) is inside in the mucous membrane, it is called mucosal melanoma. But, because of its location I have lovingly referred to my cancer as “Ass Cancer” or “Booty Cancer,” although it’s technically “Melanoma Booty Cancer.” I prefer – “Ass Cancer.”
I have been writing about this experience since the night before my colonoscopy for what we thought was a hemorrhoid (captured in the “Presence” post). What you will find here are musings from my journey through hell to healing and all the blessings in between. There are posts about: the “stuff” of cancer, treatments, both medical and holistic; my little epiphanies along the way; the extraordinary ordinary life moments; my struggles and victories throughout it all. Some will be informative, uplifting, humorous, bummed out, but all will be truthful. I don’t know the end of this story. But I intend this to be the story of my transformation, of obstacles overcome, of discoveries, and of presence. I have experienced the transformational power that crafting my stories of the past can have. But what about crafting the story of the present? That is what I am doing here in Can’t Take My Heart (working title). I am a storyteller and this is my story of transformation.
